How to use RSS.app: your quick start guide

Welcome to RSS.app! RSS.app is a platform designed to help you create, manage, and display RSS feeds from any website or social media channel. Whether you're tracking real-time updates, curating content from multiple platforms, or embedding dynamic feeds into your website, RSS.app makes it easy to automate content delivery and stay organized.

To get started, sign up for your account, and explore the guide below for a quick tour of all our features.


Sidebar

From the sidebar, you can easily navigate through your feeds, Bundles, Collections, and Alerts. You can also create a new feed, view your starred feeds for quick access, and manage your subscription plan all in one place.


1. My Feeds

This is where you'll find all your RSS feeds. Each container displays the feed icon, title, source URL, and integration. Feeds with unread updates will have a blue dot next to the title.

If you hover over the icon, you can view additional info like the feed URL, creation date, and feed status.


2. Bundles

The Bundles feature allows you to group multiple RSS feeds together into one stream. This section gives you an overview of all of your Bundles. Each container display the Bundle name, creation date, and the amount of feeds included. Bundles with unread updates will have a blue dot next to the title.

3. Collections

The Collections feature lets you combine specific articles into one RSS feed by entering article URLs. This section gives you an overview of all of your Collections. Each container displays the Collection title, the number of articles included, and a preview of the articles (including the image, title, and date of publication).

Click on the three dots next to the Collection title to go to Collection Overview, Widgets, Edit, or to bulk delete the articles included / the Collection itself.

You can also access the Curate feature on this page to view posts across your feeds in a grid format for easy editing and sharing.

4. Bots & Alerts

Alerts notify you when there's new content in your feeds, and you can have them sent to platforms like email, Discord, Telegram, and Slack. It ensures you stay updated without having to check your feeds manually.

Here, you can connect your Slack, Discord, or Telegram accounts. Each item in the list of Integrations has the Alert name, source feed, posting channel, and creation date. Toggle the on/off button to active or deactivate the Alert, and the trash icon to delete it permanently.

5. Explore

The Explore section helps you discover popular keywords to generate Topic RSS feeds. You can select or type in any keyword you want, and we'll trawl the internet to find you the most relevant articles.

6. New Feed

This button allows you to create a new RSS feed by taking you to the RSS Generator or RSS Builder. Use the Generator for news and social media, and the Builder for more custom websites.

7. Starred

In the Starred section, you’ll find the feeds you’ve marked as favorites. This makes it easier to access important or frequently used feeds.

You can hover over the feed title and click on the three dots to remove the feed from starred or quickly access the Widgets, Filters, and Edit tab.

8. Your plan

This section shows you which plan your account is on and how many feeds you have left under it. Click on Manage to upgrade or verify plan details.


Feed Overview

Feed Overview is fundamental to managing your feeds in RSS.app. Here, you can manage individual feeds, customize their output, set up alerts, and organize them into bundles for better content management.

1. Feed Title & Source URL

This section displays the name of the feed and the source URL from which the feed is pulling content.

2. Feed URL

This section features the direct RSS feed URL that you can copy and share with others or use in any RSS reader. It allows you to access the feed content directly in XML format.

It also allows you to Sort the items in your feed by Auto, Date, Last Added, or Random. You can switch between the List or Grid view for your feed.

3. Feed Content Preview

Here you can see a preview of the content from the feed, including the title, description, and images. It shows posts according to your Sort by option.

4. Settings

This section lets you manage the settings for your feed. You can edit the feed, translate its content, or click the three dots to Clear Cache, Resize Images, Replace Feed, Purge Old Posts, or export the feed as CSV.

5. Feed Output

In this area, you can customize how your feed will be displayed on RSS.app, your website, or RSS reader. It allows you to choose how the content is structured and presented to your audience, such as the number of posts per feed or maximum number of character in the description.

6. Bots & Alerts

Here, you can connect various bots and set up alerts to notify you when new content is posted in the feed. Simply click on the Discord, Telegram, Slack, or email icon to start setting up the integration.

7. Bundles

This section shows if the feed is part of any Bundles and lets you add the feed to a new Bundle.

8. Feed Status

This section shows how and when the feed was created, as well as the source URL and whether the feed is active or paused. You can toggle this setting on or off to enable or disable the feed. There’s also an option to delete the feed entirely if you no longer need it.


Widgets

The Widgets section allows you to create and customize how your RSS feed is displayed on your website. You can choose from various widget styles, adjust settings, and get the code snippet to embed the feed.

1. Widget Type

You can select from options like News Wall, List, Carousel, Imageboard, Ticker, Magazine, or Feed depending on the format you prefer for displaying your content. Click around to see which configuration best suits your needs; some emphasize images while others are text-only.

2. Widget Styles

Each widget type also has several widget styles, with different columns, padding, and color schemes. Select the one best suited to your website's aesthetic from the dropdown menu.

3. Feed Preview

This section provides a live preview of how your RSS feed will look once displayed in the selected widget format. It shows the latest posts in your feed, so you can see how the feed will appear on your site before embedding it.

4. Customize

Clicking this button allows you to adjust the visual appearance of your widget. You can modify settings like layout, colors, fonts, and other design elements to match your website’s theme. 5. Add to Website

When you're satisfied with the appearance of your widget, click this button to generate the HTML code (either JavaScript, iFrame, direct URL, or Wix). You can then copy and paste this code into your website builder (e.g., WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly, GoDaddy) to embed the widget on your site.

6. View Analytics

Clicking on this icon opens the Analytics popup, where you can track the performance of your widget, such as views. Please note that it will be empty until you embed a widget on your website.

7. Switch View

This option allows you to switch between different device views—desktop, tablet, and mobile. This way, you can see how your widget will appear across different screen sizes, ensuring it’s optimized for all devices.


Filters

The Filters section allows you to customize the content displayed in your RSS feed by applying various filters. You can hide unwanted posts, clean up titles, or block specific domains to ensure your feed only shows the most relevant content.

1. Global Filter

Enabling this toggle applies Global Filters to the current feed as well, ensuring consistency in how content is displayed.

2. Feed Filters

Here, you can apply filters to adjust the content of this specific feed. Auto-hide posts, whitelist/blacklist keywords, replace or remove text. Check out our guide on Filters for more detailed information.

3. Post Preview

This shows the posts from the feed. If post is semi-transparent with an orange i icon, it means it's been hidden by the filters and is not being displayed in your feed:

4. Hide / Block Domain / Pin

  • Hide: Click this button to hide a specific post from the feed.

  • Block Domain: Block all content from the source URL, preventing it from appearing in future posts.

  • Pin: Pin a post to the top of your feed to ensure it remains visible.
