Guide to Feed Output

Learn how to customize the appearance of your feed

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The Feed Output section allows you to fine-tune how your RSS feed appears, ensuring it meets your specific formatting and content preferences.

To access these settings, go to your Feed Overview page and look for the Feed Output section on the right side. Click Customize to adjust your feed settings as needed.

1. Global Feed Settings

This toggle allows you to apply the default settings from your account across all feeds. If enabled, any customization made in this section will be overridden by your global preferences.

You can choose to apply either the global feed settings or configure local feed settings, but not both.

2. Number of Posts

You can set the maximum number of posts displayed in your RSS feed. Adjust this by using the + or - buttons to increase or decrease the number of items included.

3. Image Tag

This section controls how images are included in the RSS feed.

  • Include images in the media: When enabled, images will be placed inside the <media> tag, making them compatible with most RSS readers.

  • Include images in the enclosure: If enabled, images will be added as an <enclosure> element, which is typically used for podcasts and audio feeds.

If you want to remove all images from your feed, toggle off both Include images in the media and Include images in the enclosure. Additionally, go to the Description Tag section and turn off Enable HTML in description to ensure images do not appear in your feed.

4. Title Tag

  • Limit title length: If activated, this lets you set a maximum number of characters for each post title.

  • Number of chars: Set the character limit manually by adjusting the number.

5. Description Tag

This section controls how descriptions appear in the feed.

  • Enable HTML in description: When turned on, HTML formatting will be preserved, allowing rich text, links, and styling to appear in the feed.

  • Include thumbnail image: If enabled, a small preview image will be included in the description, making the feed more visually appealing.

  • Include videos: This allows embedded videos from the source page to appear in the feed.

  • Limit description length: If enabled, you can set a maximum number of characters for descriptions, ensuring that only a portion of the content is displayed.

If you want to remove descriptions entirely, set the length to 0.

6. Date Tag

This section lets you control how dates are handled in your RSS feed.

  • Allow Future Dates: If turned on, your feed will allow posts with future timestamps. Native RSS feeds always show future time dates.

  • Estimate Article Dates: If an article doesn’t have a clear published date, enabling this option allows RSS.app to estimate one based on available data.

Click Save to apply any changes made or Cancel to discard edits and return to the previous screen.
