Common Feed Issues and Solutions
RSS feeds are a powerful way to aggregate content, but sometimes, issues can arise. Below are common problems and steps to troubleshoot them effectively.
1. Feed is Not Updating or Missing Content
Refresh Rate: Please note that our feeds operate within a set refresh rate and updates are not live. Check the refresh rate for your plan here. Feeds will fetch new content from the source website at regular intervals (e.g., every X min., depending on your plan) and add it if it's available.
New Feed: If the feed is newly created, allow some time for it to catch up with the source content.
Check the Source Website: Make sure the source website is publicly accessible (no login required) and displays the content you're expecting to see in the feed.
Filters: Verify if filters are unintentionally hiding content. Check the specific filters applied to your Feed or Bundle for any settings that may exclude items. Don’t forget to review Global Filters, as they can also impact the visibility of posts.
Clear feed cache: You can clear the feed cache to ensure it’s working correctly by pressing and . After clearing the cache feed should be up to date or you would need wait one refresh cycle (based on your plan's refresh rate) for the feed to catch up and update properly.
Source changed: If the source website layout has changed, you may need to re-generate the feed using the RSS Generator or update the rules in the RSS Builder to match the new layout.
Customization: Use the RSS Builder with Manual Mode for more precise customization
Native RSS Feed: If you're using a Native RSS feed as the source, check its validity using the W3C Validator to ensure the feed is still functional and properly formatted.
2. Can't create feed
Check the Source Website: Make sure the source website is publicly accessible (no login required) and displays the content you're expecting to see in the feed.
Regenerate Feed: If the issue persists, try generating the feed again a little bit later using the RSS Generator.
Use RSS Builder: For more precise control, use the RSS Builder to create your feed. Check out our RSS Builder Guide or watch this tutorial video for step-by-step instructions.
Native RSS: If it's native RSS Feed use a validator like W3C Validator. This checks if the feed meets RSS standards.
3. Duplicate or Unwanted Content
Duplicate Filters: Enable "Duplicate Title" or "Duplicate Description" filters to remove repetitive posts.
Remove/Hide Specific Posts: Use filters to Hide/Block specific post or source.
Whitelist Filter: Show only posts that match specific keywords, ensuring only the most relevant content appears.
Blacklist Filter: Hide posts with certain keywords or patterns to keep your feed clean.
Estimate Dates: For feeds without timestamps, enable "Estimate Dates" to improve sorting and filtering.
Old posts: Enable the feature. This will automatically remove posts that are no longer present on the source feed
Regex Filter: Our filters support Regex (Regular Expressions) for advanced content matching and customization.
4. Feed Displays Incorrect Order
Sorting Options: Use different sorting options to tailor your feed or other available settings to align with your preferences.
Some websites frequently change the rankings or positions of their content, which may not always align with how the content appears in the feed.
5. Issues with Widgets
Embedding: Ensure the correct embed method (iFrame, JavaScript, or Direct URL) is used for your platform. If you encounter issues, try switching to an alternative method (e.g., if using iFrame, try JavaScript, or vice versa) to see which works best for your setup. Also check our Widget guide.
Customization: Adjust widget settings to match your website’s layout. Use "Responsiveness" for better display on mobile. Make sure Mobile/Tablet settings are enabled.
Security Settings: Add your website's domain to the widget's security settings.
6. Feed Not Working with External Apps
Check App Compatibility: Ensure the app supports RSS feeds in the format you’re providing (XML, JSON, CSV).
Allow some time for the feed to refresh and try loading it again. If the issue persists, verify that the feed is accessible and functional. If confirmed, contact the support team of the external application for assistance.
API Configuration: Verify API integration and ensure API keys are set correctly in your app. You can generate and manage API keys in your account here: https://rss.app/account/api.
Webhooks: Ensure that the application using our webhook is properly configured and capable of receiving hooks without errors. Check the endpoint URL and monitor for any error messages or connectivity issues.
