How to customize Slack Alerts

Learn how to configure posts sent to your Slack

Updated this week

RSS.app offers a range of features to help you customize your Telegram alerts for a personalized experience.

Changing the Source

1. Click on Change Source.

2. Select the new feed or Bundle you'd like to push to Slack.

If you select multiple feeds, we'll make a Bundle out of them.

Applying Filters

Filters allow you to refine your feed so that you're only getting the content that's most relevant to you. Click on Filter Feed to access the following settings.

Global Filter

You can toggle this button to enable/disable filters that apply across all of your feeds.

Auto Hide Posts

  • No images: Hide posts without images.

  • No description: Hide posts without descriptions.

  • No dates: Hide posts without dates.

  • No secure links: Hide posts without secure links.

  • Duplicate description: Hide posts with identical descriptions.

  • Duplicate titles: Hide posts with identical descriptions.

Clean Title

This feature removes certain terms or website names from the post title. It's helpful if you want to make the title cleaner and more relevant to the content itself.

  • Enable Auto-Cleaner: If enabled, it will automatically clean up post titles based on the keywords you’ve defined.

Automatically Hide Posts Older Than

You can set a time limit for how long posts remain visible before they are automatically hidden. Choose to hide posts older than a certain number of days or hours.

Whitelist

This allows you to filter posts based on keywords that must appear in the content to be included in the feed.

Blacklist

Similar to the whitelist, the blacklist lets you filter out posts containing specific keywords. If a post contains any of the blacklisted terms, it will be hidden.

Replace or Remove Text

This section allows you to replace or remove specific words, phrases, or URLs from the posts before they appear in your Telegram alerts.

Changing Settings

These settings allow you to tailor what's included in your Slack Alerts.

Change Bot Display Name and Avatar

To make your bot more recognizable and fit your team’s style:

  • Bot Name: Enter the name you want the bot to display in Slack.

  • Avatar: Insert a URL or upload it from your computer.

Customize the Card Elements

RSS.app allows you to control which elements appear in the Slack alert. Under the Card Elements section, you can toggle each content type:

  • Title: Show or hide the title of the post in the alert.

  • Link in Title: Choose whether the title is clickable and links directly to the source.

  • Description: Include or exclude the post’s description in the alert.

  • Image: Toggle to include an image, if available in the post.

  • Author: Display the author of the post.

  • Timestamp 1: Show the timestamp when the post was created or published.

Add Read More Link

If you want your Slack alerts to include a Read More link, you can toggle this option on. You can also insert Custom Text that will direct users to the full content for more details:

Customize Embed Message Color

The Embed Message Color option allows you to change the color of the alert message by inputting a hex code or visually select a color using the interface.

Post Only URLs

If you want your Slack alerts to only display the URLs without additional information, toggle the Post Only URLs option on.
